Henry Plays Down Monaco Drop Fears

Thierry Henry watched his Monaco side lose 1-0 against Reims on Saturday and insisted that they do not fear Ligue 1 relegation. The 41-year-old was installed as coach at the Stade Louis II last month after Leonardo Jardim was axed following a poor start to the season.

However, Henry has yet to see his team pick up a win and this latest setback has left Monaco in the relegation zone, four points off safety, with just one win from 12 matches.

Mathieu Cafaro scored the only goal of the game as both sides ended the match with 10 men after Reims’ Alaixys Romao was red-carded early in the second half, before Monaco’s Pele was sent off with 19 minutes remaining. “I don’t think the team are scared [of being relegated] but it is difficult mentally.

It’s a tough situation the one we are facing,” Henry told a news conference. “Now, as I said a lot of times, there is still plenty of points to take. But, of course, if there will be a bigger gap between the teams ahead of us and us, it will start to be difficult. “But, one more time, it’s not easy to be in that kind of situation.

“The week has been good during the training, I won’t say it hasn’t been good, but the game didn’t reflect what happened during this good week. “You also have an opponent during the game, of course. Reims was just better than us.”
