Jake Hesketh hopes Southampton allow him to stay at Burton Albion to play in their Carabao Cup semi-finals next month.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, whose existing loan deal runs out on January 2 – a fortnight before the semi-final first leg – scored Burton’s 48th-minute winner to see off Championship side Middlesbrough on their own turf on Tuesday.
But, although he would like to play in those two games against Premier League opposition, Hesketh remains focused on making the grade at St Mary’s.
And with new head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl settling into the Saints dugout, Hesketh is determined to catch the Austrian’s eye.
He said: “It’s nice to know they are watching because as much as I want to impress people here and prove myself to everyone, the people at Southampton are the people I probably want to impress the most.
“That’s the team I ultimately want to get into. “Whenever the time comes that I go back, I want to impress the new manager and put a case forward to be in his team.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
