Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has insisted his former club must not sell English star Raheem Sterling despite growing interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid this season.
Sterling has come under the spotlight over the last year for his brilliant performances at club level as Liverpool finished a close second in the Premier League title race.
He has since been thrust into the international set up and once again excelled, attracting interest from Real Madrid, according to recent reports.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s huge Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday, former Liverpool and England striker Heskey has had his say about a potential transfer in the summer.
“It will be a massive loss for Liverpool to lose Sterling,” he told talkSport.
“At this moment in time, he is their number one player. He is the one everyone is looking to to provide something, to give them that spark.
“Last season it was Luis Suarez, but this season it is Sterling.
“Even when Daniel Sturridge is playing, everyone is looking at Sterling to be the one to provide something and give them that spark.
