Hiddink Won’t Rule Out Top 4; Fears “Dangerous” Ighalo, Deeney

Hiddink Won’t Rule Out Top 4; Fears “Dangerous” Ighalo, Deeney

By Nurudeen Obalola:

New Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has refused to rule out the club from finish in the Premier League top four despite being 15th in the league table.

"Mathematically, yes. But this league is very tough,” Hiddink said on Wednesday during his press conference ahead of the Boxing Day fixture against Watford.

Hiddink backed Eden Hazard to find his best form again.
"He had a terrific season last year," Hiddink said of last season's Player of the Year in England.
“I think he can be a key player, as captain of the national team in Belgium, but also here.
“He was unlucky to be injured recently, but today he practised.
“Tomorrow we see again. We look to get back the form.”

Chelsea face a Watford side who have won their last four league matches, with the thriving partnership of  Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney leading from the front.

Hiddink said: "Watford are very disciplined, they have a very strong strikers couple.
“Ighalo and Deeney are very dangerous, not just once or twice but frequently.
“We have to go into a sequence of good results.”

The Dutchman said he has confidence in the squad to improve.

He added: ““Terry and Ivanovic have proven they can be leaders again. Deep down there is no lack of confidence.
“What I like in teams is to have a spine, to have strong people who can lead and coach during the game. I think we can do more within the team

"I have to go back in the past and I don’t want to. Now is more relevant.
“That’s what I said inside. I didn’t want much of an information as it can sometimes be corrupt.
“I want my own judgment. That’s why I said to various people, I don’t want much of an information.
“They have to show what they’re capable of.

“I’m analysing and watching alot and I cannot see that they have a lack of ambition or desire.
“I cannot complain and I shouldn’t complain. I have no single complaint
Hiddink praises Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who was tipped to be the assistant manager.
"He’s a legend, in this club and outside the club," Hiddink said of Drogba.
“The only thing is he is playing in Montreal, but I think all the big clubs have these specific guys/figures, who can be ambassadors, coaches, managers – but they must be given the opportunity.
“They give the brand Chelsea a big image worldwide.”

  • wise guy. he is not under estimating anyone and more especially Odion Ighalo and his strike partner Deeney. These two can destroy any team and Chelsea post Mourinho are vulnerable. Wisdom indeed to be weary of those two.
