Charlie Hills admits he is hopeful that he can guide Battaash into the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes with the correct temperament. The four-year-old is the odds-on favourite for the Group 1 at York on Friday following a terrific display at the King George Stakes at Goodwood last month, where he stormed to victory.
Despite his raw speed there is still some doubt about his temperament as at the same meeting last year he was reluctant to load into the starting stalls, causing a delay before eventually finishing fourth.
However, Hills is confident that his horse will be fine this time around.
Hills said: “He’s drawn 14, which is fine, and we’ve been very pleased with him since Goodwood. He was impressive that day and did it really well.
“He had his last breeze on Tuesday morning and we were very happy with him.
“We were beaten by Blue Point at Royal Ascot – he is in there again – but a flat five furlongs will suit us more and we are really looking forward to running him.”
