Hodgson Not Hopeful On Benteke

Roy Hodgson is not expecting to see striker Christian Benteke in a Crystal Palace shirt before the end of the year. The Belgium international has been out of the Palace side since the start of last month and it has now been decided that the best course of action to take is surgery.

Palace released a statement earlier in the week says they hope he will be back in training soon, but Hodgson does not sound too confident.

There’s no doubt we won’t be seeing much of him this year,” Hodgson told Sky Sports. “I think it will take until into 2019 before we see him, but hopefully earlier than later in 2019.”

The Eagles have struggled for goals this season, which has led to reports suggesting that Hodgson is looking to draft in another striker when the January transfer window opens.

Brentford’s French striker Neal Maupay has been linked with a £10million switch but a fit and firing Benteke is also needed and Palace boss will hope to have him back as soon as possible.
