How Eagles Rated Vs Bosnia-Herzegovina

It was Enyeam first win after three World Cups.He was excellent in goal, doing the right thing expected of him between the sticks. His wealth of experience was hugely tested after he parried Edin Dzeko’s goal-bound shot in the 25th minute. Most importantly, his last minutes save will goal as one his best saves at the mundial Enyeama would have to be at his best if Nigerian intends to do well in Brazil. 8

He gradually settled down into the game after initial errors, combining hard work with versatility full of common sense. The Chelsea central defender has blended well with Yobo and the duo deserve some commendation for keeping the Bosnians at bay. 6

He may have shut his critics with his good display after questions were raised over his fitness and injuries. Yobo brought his wealth of experience into play and did well to give Vincent Enyeama the right coverage. He has done well to fill the void left behind by injured Godfrey Oboabona. 7

Nobody gave him any chance to do well at the World Cup. He failed to join in the attack whenever the team surged forward in search of goals. Probably he was told by the coach to sit back and provide the right coverage, Oshaniwa’s confidence is building up and he may turn out as one of the revelations of the World Cup. 6

The Celtic defender seems to have lost the shine and spark that made him one of the best defenders at the 2013 AFCON and Confederations Cup in Brazil last year. He almost cost Nigeria dearly for his indecision when Edin Dzeko broke lose to score which was later disallowed by the centre referee. His recovery was poor and had Osaze to thank when he joined the attack. 5

He settled down into the game after initial setback when the team moved from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2. He did a yeoman’s job in the heart of Eagles midfield as Mikel switch off completely and sauntered lazily in the midfield. He should be commended for combining dirty jobs with constant floating of passes to Osaze and Emenike. His accurate shots were a torn in the flesh of goalkeeper Begovic and he should have scored with one of his bullets. 7

He failed to come to the party and if there is any other word that best describes Mikel’s dwindling form and disappointing performance against Bosnia, the press would be pardon for it. Mikel failed to click and it really opened up Nigeria’s midfield as Bosnia pressed harder for a goal. Mikel was disappointing all through and the earlier Nigeria managers realized that Mikel is not the answer to Nigeria’s nightmarish midfield, the better. 4

Gave a good account of himself with his dribbling runs and could have found the net save for Begovic’s agility and reflexes between the sticks. Injuries put paid to his dream and he was replaced by Ejike Uzoenyi. 6

He lived up to his antecedents by churning in costly elementary errors. He had a chance to put Nigeria ahead in the 15th and 32nd minutes when he was set free by Emmanuel Emenike, but his first touch failed him. He was later replaced by Shola Ameobi. 5

Arguably the man that brought Nigeria to the party and he showed a lot of guts throughout the match. His wealth of experience lifted the team after coach Stephen Keshi gave him the nod to start. He justified his inclusion in the starting line-up, scoring Nigeria’s only goal of the match. 9

Workaholic! Emenike deserves lots of credits for his efforts, proving the right crosses even when he was not scoring goals. His strength was not a match for Bosnian captain Spahic, after his runs through the flanks picked out Osaze Odemwingie who made no mistake to slot in the only goal of the match. 8

This is not a good review on Mikel. He played to the coach’s instructions.

No coach will ever instruct a top MF like him to give up balls, not to track back, not to make right passes and defend properly well. His performance was woeful. The coach must bear the brunt for going to FWC will 5 MFS. The selection error is putting a whole lot of strain on the team. Keshi should be queried for gross dereliction of duty.

Cudos 4 u osas. The rejected turn to a corner stone.

  • It’s a good thing for Osaze, Emenike & Yobo to have given their all but credit still goes to all members of the team. Well done Keshie

  • Welldone Super Eagles; Mikel obviously should be least as his second half performance was shambolic ! Bosnia almost scored and Nigeria would have been almost out! But while Osaze stood out I like Babatunde to be encouraged as he has attacking potentials for our good! He is daring enough to complement our attackers! One Love to all Nigerians.(BBM 26DBDF77)
