Howe: Bournemouth Aim To Catch Up With Chelsea

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture against Chelsea, Bornemouth manager Eddie Howe is hoping to pull a shocking win against the outgoing Premier League champions.

Howe was asked about the importance of the game at the Dosert at his Friday's press conference. Chelsea have had some patchy form but the Cherries boss is adamant the Blues will be a tough side.

"The supporters haven't seen many home wins. We want to change that. One of our motivations is to pull level with Chelsea," Howe said.

"We haven't talked about a top ten finish, just this game – and making sure we give our all for the supporters.

"World-class players made the difference in our games against Manchester City and Liverpool. Chelsea have those players and we need to be wary."

Eddie Howe further said Bournemouth's win at Stamford Bridge in December was a key moment in their season.

"The win at Chelsea was one of the turning points of the season. When you deliver it, that's the confidence builder. We look back on it with fondness – it was a famous night for AFC Bournemouth," Howe added.

Defending champions Chelsea are 10th, just three points above Bournemouth, and Howe admits he is surprised the Blues haven't fared better this season.

"It's unusual for Chelsea not to be fighting for honours," he remarked.

Eddie Howe was asked about the return of striker Callum Wilson.

Wilson suffered a long-term knee injury in September but returned to action earlier this month.

"We're pleased with Callum, we'll build his minutes up slowly, there's no rush on him at the moment."
