Brighton boss Chris Hughton deserves plenty of credit for the work he’s done at the Amex, according to Southampton manager Mark Hughes. The Seagulls are currently preparing to make the 66-mile trip along the south coast to face Southampton on Monday, having had a break through the recent international fixtures.
Former Wales manager Hughes has been impressed with the work Hughton has done to not only get Brighton promoted but to keep them in the Premier League on a limited budget.
Hughes said: “He’s done an outstanding job. Since he’s come up he’s established them as a good club in the Premier League, at the top level of English football.
“Chris is very underrated as a manager in my view. He’s done great jobs everywhere he has been and sometimes doesn’t get the recognition for what he has achieved in the game.
“From his point of view, I think he is enjoying his time there. It looks a good club, a stable club, good facilities, great stadium, so a lot of things you need as a manager are in place for him.
“I’m sure he’s enjoying his time at the moment.”
