Nigeria's Super Sand Eagles star, Bartholomew Ibenegbu, is heartbroken following Nigeria's elimination from the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas after losing their last Group B match early early Tuesday morning in Nigerian time, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ibenegbu was in action in for Nigeria and scored what looked like a winning goal for Audu Adamu's team with the score at 4–3, but Iran's Mohamed Mokhtari grabbed his second goal in the match to restore parity and force the game into extra time and later penalty shootout.
Nigeria eventually lost the Group B match 2-1 after the spot kicks.
Ibenegbu spoke exclusively with Completesportsnigeria.com on the team's ouster from the tournament .
"So many people have been calling and sending messages to show their feelings and sadness. To our fans I say thank you all," Ibenegbu, who is affectionately called 'Mosquito' by fans stated during an exclusive chat with Completesportsnigeria.com.
"We are not happy losing to Iran, but we hope we can improve in future. I expect better outing next time. I hope to be part of that."
Iran will play Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the Beach Soccer World Cup late Thursday night.
