Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic has backed his country to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Sweden finished top of Group F on six points and qualified alongside Mexico while world champions Germany and South Korea were eliminated.
Ibrahimovic retired from international football following Euro 2016, scoring a record 62 times in 116 appearances for Sweden.
Prior to the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, there were suggestions that Ibrahimovic would be included in Sweden’s squad after their surprise triumph over Italy in the World Cup qualifiers which never happened.
And according to Daily Mail, Ibrahimovic has backed his compatriots to ‘take over the world’, just like he did.
“I said before the World Cup they’ll go far and they’ll probably win it,” the LA Galaxy striker said.
“I’m very happy, proud to be Swedish, driving around with a Swedish flag, so, we hear them.
“I took over the world, now Sweden are taking over the world.”
Sweden take on Switzerland on July 3 in Saint Petersburg and the winner will face either England or Colombia in the quarter-finals.
And Ibrahimovic believes Sweden will be a very tough opponent for anyone left in the tournament.
