Iceland Coach: Super Eagles Are Desperate, They Know They Have To Beat Us

By Johnny Edward:

Iceland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson says he expects the Super Eagles of Nigeria to come out firing in their Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D game against his side on Friday in Volgograd.

Nigeria lost 2-0 to Croatia in their opening game and must beat Iceland to have any chance of advancing to the next round.

Hallgrimsson’s men kicked off their FIFA World Cup campaign by holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw and he admits that the game against Nigeria will be a proper battle.

“This is a must-win game for Nigeria, and that makes it a little bit psychologically different, they have to win,” Hallgrimsson told reporters in his pre-match interview.

“This group is going to be decided in the last minutes, in the last game.

“It’s going to be down to some margins, a set piece, a goal in extra time. This is how this group is going to be played.”

Iceland are currently joint-second with Argentina in Group D and will be out to avoid defeat to make history by reaching the round of 16 on their World Cup debut.

  • Sure we will crazily beat you with goal margin.

  • Our Darling Super Eagles are merely down not destroyed! Our match against Iceland is going to be a major factor in Group D. Surprises are imminent.

  • It is obvious that the icelandic team will be out to frustrate the SE by playing defensive football and then catching us on the counter and on set pieces knowing fully well that we will be desperate for a goal by pushing more players upfront in search the the goal and also the fact that we are prone to conceding goals through set piece. The coach and the team should be aware of this. Also since Iceland knows they’ve beaten Croatia b4 during the qualifiers, they know even a point against 9ja won’t be a bad result as they probably believe they can still beat Croatia. SE need to be very careful in this game, play with passion, pride, confidence, hunger and with a laser focused mindset and am sure we will carry the day. I see 9ja winning by a lone goal. We shouldn’t concede 1st in this match otherwise a long night awaits us. At the same time we should panic if we don’t score an early goal, we should keep probing and attacking with resolute defending. Vamos SE.

God bless 9ja and its people.

Dreams always come through, especially if it comes feom me. I had a dream 2013 that Nigeria won the Nation cup and we know what happened. To prove you right, I had another dream 2 night ago seeing Nigeria vs Iceland. It was Nigeria 3 vs 3 Iceland when I woke up as at 80th minutes. This is real. For sport loving fans who would want to reward their passion, please do not hesitate. Put your cash on maybe 5.5 if that odd exist, or 6.0. Am a novice in betting ooo. God bless the eagles, God bless 9ja. No matter what, eagles go come out of that group.

  • So iceland dnt need to win right? Continue with ur mind game mr coach, i will advice SE coach to start musa n iheanacho upfront, musa for his speed n direct play n iheanacho for his clinical finishing n free kick shd we av any at d edge of there 18yard, iheacho will surely convert 2 out of 5 good chance.Good luck to my darling SE.

  • Tokunbo, rohr got ur message and started musa and iheanacho. And d rest it history. Musa was made for d world cup. He now 4 goals in 2 world cups. I dont think there’s any nigerian player that has scored more goals than musa in d world cup.
