Iceland Coach: We Won’t Rely On Set Pieces Vs Nigeria; Ndidi, Ighalo Dangerous

By James Agberebi:
Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has played down talks about his team focusing on set pieces to outdo Nigeria in Friday’s Group D Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup clash.

The Super Eagles were found wanting in defending set plays which Croatia benefited from in their 2-0 win.

Iceland are noted for their aerial prowess as they parade the tallest players at this year’s World Cup.

But Hallgrimsson posited that the Super Eagles also pose a threat in set pieces.
“Your players actually are really good in the air,” Hallgrimsson said in Thursday’s press conference.

“I think Ndidi, and Ighalo, is probably one of the best guys in the air in the tournament. But this is just normal for us.

“We prepare set-pieces for every opponent we meet. It’s nothing different from Nigeria or Argentina.”

Hallgrimsson also revealed that their camp is open for players families to visit.

“It’s a nice opportunity that we have,” Hallgrimsson said.

“After lunch and until dinner, wives, fathers and siblings, and more, can come and visit us. It will hopefully have a good effect on the players. It does take its toll to be a part of a group that is together for such a long time and it is nice that they can meet their families.”

  • your plans will not work, ighalo can no longer play for us he is not dangerous, i think ndidi is even overrated, I don’t see much that he does apart from chasing the ball all over d field.lets see how it goes but as am watching the game arg Vs Croatia. It will take super eagles to play a perfect game to make it out of this group

    • Ndidi is overrated personified. Massively overrated is so unreal. He has the legs and youth to chase down and intercept;granted his interception are neat, good and effective.
But my brother, you are right, he is no Ngolo Konte or legends like Xabi Alonso, Andrea Pirlo, Claude Makalele or Patrick Vieira.
Ndidi, like the rest of this squad are average players at best.

    • you can imagine the mind game, ndidi is rusty, ighalo is of course a retiree … he wants us to field weak team, for where?

  • The pendulum has switched to Ndidi. Weldone guys.
