–Ex-international says the standard was far below expectation
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah says the2015 African Nations Cup qualifier between South Africa and Nigeria fell short of the standard expected from both sides, saying the match played in Cape Town yesterday was not a good reflection of good football in Africa.
The ex-international who is based in South Africa refused to be carried away by the result but insisted that both sides did not reflect good display of African football.
“South Africans will be happy because they got a draw against Nigeria while the Super Eagles will also be happy that they were not beaten by the young players South Africa paraded in the match but the fact remains that the match did not reflect a good display of African football,” says Idah.
“I expected a better standard from both sides, we saw the match between Cameroun and Cote d’ Ivoire and you will agree with me that despite the 4-1 result, we still saw a good display of football and that is how it should be.
Idah however expects the Nigerian side to move on from the match and do better in their subsequent matches in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
