Idowu Joins Lokomotiv Moscow, Excited To Play In UCL

Russian Premier League club Lokomotiv Moscow have signed Super Eagles defender Bryan Idowu from Amkar Perm.

Lokomotiv Moscow, the former club of ex-Nigeria forward Osaze Odemwingie, confirmed the deal for free agent Idowu on Tuesday.

“National team of Nigeria defender Bryan Idowu has signed a three-year contract with Lokomotiv Moscow,” the club announced on the official website on Tuesday.

Idowu, 26, who featured in all three Super Eagles games at the Russia 2018 World Cup, said he was excited to join the Moscow giants, especially as they will be playing in Europe.

Lokomotiv Moscow won the Russian Premier League title last season and will be playing in the UEFA Champions League in the new season, giving Idowu a taste of elite European competition.

“I am very glad to switch to Lokomotiv. I’m really looking forward to joining the team at the training camp,” Idowu told the club’s website.
“As a child I watched the matches of “Loco” in the Champions League – against Real and Inter. The whole country was proud of the team!
“I’m happy to be acquainted with Alexander Kolomeitsev, with whom I played together in Perm. The rest of the guys know about the matches of Amkar against Lokomotiv.”

Wow! Good move despite all the criticisms from fans, the Russian league champions have seen how good he is. As a Nigerian, am very proud of you Idowu. More success to your career

  • Brian Idowu: It will be interesting to see whether this guy honours future invitations to the national team as I have a funny feeling that his principal or perhaps sole motivation to heed the call of Nigeria was to play at the World Cup in the land of his birth.

He doesn’t strike me as a player keen on the rigours of African football.

    But I may be wrong.

For all the criticisms the Russian-Nigerian received from fans, Idowu is actually brilliant at interventions and often timely in tackles; he is not a bad defender.

However, for a wing-back, he can be incredibly uncomfortable with ball to feet and his deliveries into to box can also be awful.

Overall though, he is a decent player however, the Super Eagles left full back/wing back position is still very much up for grabs with players like Ebuehi, Amuzie, Musa Muhammed and Kingsley Madu waiting to lay claim to the position.

Am always baffled by the way some of us reason like illeterates in this forum. Just because someone raised the name of a player, others will begin to echo same not minding to find the details of the so-called player by themselves. MUSA MOHAMMED is not a Left footer, He is a Right footer and he plays either RB or RWB and we are talking about a LEFT WING POSITION here not Right back. It not all players that possess the ability to play the position that is not theirs originally. Musa Mohammed is a BEAST whenever he plays his normal position and should automatically be selected into the squad for the Afcon qualifiers; If we haven’t been banned by then

    • Mr Chairmanfemi, granted a mistake was made in adding the name of Musa Mohammed to the list of potential left fullbacks/wingbacks but is that enough to refer to others as illiterates.

Come to this forum and share ideas, not rudeness.

If you spot an error in the entry of a fellow contributor, inform them in a civil manner.

Point taken, Musa Muhammad is a right fullback.

Carry yourself with dignity and respect always.

  • Come to think of it, is he better than Ebuehi or Aina even Sehu Abdullahi?. Which club is he playing for and how is he faring? all these questions are yet to be answered but they still want him to play for super Eagles out of sentiment because he is their player even if he is not good enough.
