Super Eagles defender Bryan Idowu was in action for Amkar Perm who defeated visiting FC Tambov from the second-tier 2-0 in the first leg of the Russian promotion/relegation play-offs on Thursday.
Also in action for Amkar was 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Fegor Ogude.
Idowu was listed in the Super Eagles’ 30-man provisional list for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Second half goals from Janusz Gol and Sergey Balanovich in the 60th and 79th minutes secured the important first-leg win for Amkar.
The return leg comes up on Sunda with the winner over the two legs securing their place in the Russian Premier League next season.
In the other play-off tie also played on Thursday, second-tier side FC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk thrashed Anzhi Makhachkala 3-0. Both teams will also meet on Sunday for the reverse fixture.
The promotion/relegation play-off is between teams that finished in the 13th and 14th positions in the Russian Premier League facing the third and fourth-placed teams from the Football National League (FNL), the second division.
