Ifeanyi Ubah Emerges New Anambra FA Chairman

By Sab Osuji:

Dr Patrick Ifeanyiubah has emerged as chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Ubah, who is President and sole financier of Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, side FC Ifeanyiubah, thus succeeds Chief Mike Umeh as boss of the state FA after his 16-year reign.

The election took place at Creek Hotel, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, Tuesday May 3, 2016 after nearly two years in suspense following bickering between Chief Mike Umeh's faction and the faction led by JBC Obikwelu.

In an intrigue laden election Tuesday which took place 24 hours before Wednesday's scheduled date, Dr Ifeanyiubah was elected chairman unopposed following the absence of chairmanship contestant, Chief Olisa Aniuno.

The election which was conducted by the NFF Election Committee supervised by its chairman, Ephraim Chukwuemeka saw the emergence of seven board members including; Cyprain Amuzie, a former secretary of the association and former referee Udennaka Bebeto Anthony from Anambra Central.

Completesportsnigeria.com also understands that former Nigeria Premier League, NPL board member Joe Amene, Kingsley Uduh and ex-Jasper United left winger Emeka Sarafi Raphael, were elected from Anambra North just as Ifepe Edward Ada and Albert Chinye Theodore will represent Anambra South in the board.

Vice chairman of the new board, Barrister JBC Obikwelu said he was happy the election has come and gone.

"I'm happy to be elected as vice chairman. Our task is to move the state forward in football, but most importantly, issues concerning Anambra State Football Association election has been put to rest," Obikwelu, a retired referee said to Completesportsnigeria.com.

However, a dissenting voice, Akonam Obiefule discribed the poll as a charade.

"Accreditation for the election was held on Monday. Tuesday was slated for media debate while election proper was slated for Wednesday," Obiefule who was to contest for the vice chairmanship position told Completesportsnigeria.com on Tuesday.

"While we're getting set for the media debate for which we were already invited via phone call, before we got there, they have already concluded an election originally slated for Wednesday."
