Super Eagles Russia-based striker Sylvester Igbonu says he misses his late father after his dad was laid to rest over the weekend in his home in Owerri.
The former FC Midtjylland striker was accompained by his bosom friend Izunna Uzockwukuwu and other players for the final burial rites of his late father, Pa Basil Chukwuemeka Igbonu, who died weeks back.
The bereaved Nigerian international told Completesportsnigeria.com: “My darling dad was my biggest motivation.
“My dad was my best friend. All I have done and all I will do in my life will be to make him proud.
“I hope I have. I will think of him every minute of every day, 2015 has been a great year for me, I won the league title in Denmark, moved to Russia in the summer and also got a call up to the Super Eagles, but so sad my dad is not here now to celebrate with me which hurts me a lot.”
Igbonu made his international debut in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game against Tanzania on 5 September 2015, replacing Lukman Haruna in the 35th minute of the draw in Dar Es Salaam.
He has scored three goals for his side in 16 league games this term.
