Ighalo Arrives, Flies To Uyo From Lagos With Complete Sports

By Johnny Edward:
Odion Ighalo (pictured above with CSN’s Edward and Ibitoye at Lagos Airport) will join up with the rest of his Super Eagles teammates in camp this afternoon at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort Uyo ahead of Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Group E match against Libya, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Changchun Yatai striker boarded an Air Peace flight in Lagos with CSN’s reporter, Johnny Edward and the Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye, to Uyo late Wednesday morning.

Ighalo told CSN before the departure of the flight that the ambition of playing at the Africa Cup of Nations is the sole motivation for him and teammates going into the crucial double header against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

“We want to play at the AFCON next year and to do that, beating Libya is a task we must accomplish successful,” Ighalo told CSN, beaming in smile.

Nigeria on three points, trail Group E leaders Libya by a point ahead of the double header billed for Uyo on Saturday and next Tuesday in Ajax Tunisia.

South Africa are currently in second position on four points as Libya, but with fewer goal difference. Seychelles bring up the rear after losing their first two games against Libya and Nigeria.

  • Nigeria vs Libya Preview 2

    Welcome Ighalo!

A headline that would read something like: Super Eagles drop points at home in shocking circumstances” come Sunday morning would be greeted with horror by Super Eagles fans at home and abroad – We cannot afford to drop points at home to Libya under any circumstances.

In the second part of my preview, I look at factors that can lead to the Super Eagles either drawing or losing to the Mediterranean Knights of Libya this Saturday the 13th of October.

    1. Loss of focus: Maintain focus for full 90+ minutes (even if they concede goals) will be central for the Super Eagles.

    2. Poor Team Selection: This was the single most important reason that led to the shock 0:2 loss to South Africa in the 1st qualifying match.

    3. Poor gamesmanship: Gamesmanship is defined as ‘the art of winning games by using various ploys and tactics to gain a psychological advantage’. Few will forget how poor gamesmanship robbed us of a positive outcome against Argentina in Russia.

    4. Lack of cohesiveness: If the Super Eagles fail to ‘jell’ as a unit, for all the big-name players that we have, we may come out short.

    5. Lack of leadership: There should be a clear leader on the pitch; someone who co-ordinates and continues to communicate the teams shared strategy and objectives for 90+ minutes.

A positive result at home against Libya on Saturday is non-negotiable. No stone is to be left unturned by the team handlers to achieve this.

  • Ighalo why? why did you come back, I was thinking you were not going to make it. which will have been better for us, because I know even if you play you will not score. my prayer is Rohr will not field you at all, because even if he does you will not score, let those that can score play.

  • Even 10 goals against libya is not enough redemption.
Ighalo fails and have faild when and where it mattered most the WC.
If he has any dignity left, he should follow victor moses.

  • You can be sure that this guy will get 90 minutes with Rohr. It is now certain that there’s a secret pact between them, but nothing remains shouded in mystery for ever. One day the bubble will burst.

Note: Iwobi isn’t a good winger but a good playmaker. The Nigeria Vs Croatia match attests to this fact. He will fumble as a winger but will flourish as a Playmaker I.e No.10
