Ighalo Bags 9th CSL Goal In Changchun Yatai Defeat

By Johnny Edward:

Odion Ighalo scored his ninth Chinese Super League (CSL) goal of the season for Changchun Yatai who lost 2-1 at home to Shandong Luneng on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ighalo finished off a beautiful team play in the 24th minute to hand his side a 1-0 lead.

But a second half header from Graziano Pelle for Shandong Luneng and an owngoal from Nemanja Pejcinovic handed Changchun Yatai their seventh defeat of the season.

The 29 year old forward had a chance to double his side’s lead in the 34th minute but his goal bound strike was cleared off the line by a defender.

In the second half, Shandong Luneng responded swiftly and were level in the 47th minute through Graziano Pelle heading in a cross from Diego Tardeli.

The Italian wasted a huge chance six minutes later as his header crashed the crossbar.

In the 67th minute, Changchun Yatai’s Pejcinovic diverted Tardelli’s cross past his own goalkeeper.

Changchun Yatai are now 13th in the CSL table with 14 points while Shandong Luneng moved up to the summit of the log.

Ighalo and his teammates will face Tianjin Quanjin in their next game on the 29th of July.

Our media and Ighalo.News about his exploits in China has been constantly reported on sports pages of late.I know as usual this could lead to his invitation when the super eagle convene for the nations cup qualifier I hope not.
If you can do it for Chiangyung Yatai and can’t do the same for the national team so what’s the point.
Please stop deceiving us with this goals you score for your club it’s of no use to us since you cannot do the same for Nigeria.
Goodluck with your career but please keep a distance from the super eagles if you are really a patriot that you seem to be.

  • If Ighalo continues this goal scoring form, I suspect that Coach Rohr – if still in charge – will strongly consider handing the ex-Watford man a call-up ahead of crucial AFCON qualifiers in September.

As funny as it may sound, I for one have no problem with Ighalo’s poor goal scoring record for the Super Eagles per se. My problem lies with his overall contributions which requires massive improvement.

I remember strikers like Emmanuel Emenike and England’s ex-International Emile Heskey and Holland’s Dirk Kuyt who often are not the most prolific yet effective engine-rooms up front for their teams.

In 2014, Emenike did not score any goals for Nigeria in Rio, yet, history will not record him as a flop in that tournament.

Because, when he wasn’t scoring, Emenike was making a nuisance of himself to the defences of Bosnia, Argentina, Iran and France. He provided 2 assists, held the line well, had some cracking efforts at goal and even had a goal disallowed for marginal offside.

But Ighalo; he was a nuisance to his own team-mates who watched in horror as he missed a sitter, provided 0 assist throughout the tournament and was often poorly positioned to advantage of the few opportunities that came his way.

I retained a lot of faith in Ighalo in Russia until that shocking miss against Argentina left me visiting the accident and Emergency department of my local hospital with suspected irregular heart-beat.

Even if Ighalo scores in every match until the end of the season, many fans will still prefer to see Lokosa, Chisom Chikatara or Okpotu leading the lines for the Super Eagles.

    And do you blame them?
