Ighalo Shifts Focus To Changchun Yatai, Vows Super Eagles Will Improve

By Johnny Edward:

Changchun Yatai striker Odion Ighalo is looking forward to this weekend’s Chinese Super League clash against Guangzhou R&F after featuring for the Super Eagles during the international break, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ighalo fired blanks in the two Nigeria friendlies against Poland and Serbia but remains confident that the Super Eagles will be ready for the tough task ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The former Watford striker started the encounter against Poland which the Super Eagles won 1-0 courtesy of a Victor Moses penalty, but came on as a half-time substitute against Serbia which Nigeria lost 2-0.

“The friendlies were good for the team and we know where we are now and we will continue to work hard to be better ahead of the World Cup,” Ighalo told CSN.

“The focus is now to my club (Changchun Yatai) where I will maintain my form ahead of the World Cup.”

Ighalo has scored four goals in 15 international apprearances for the Super Eagles.

  • 4 goals for 15 appearances in Eagles shirt is very poor for a top striker!!..Nigeria needs some thing better .Going to the world cup is not the issue but coming out ontop, I don’t know why Ighalo always back the opponent when ever he has a ball, his tactics does not pay us .We need a strong ,huge striker in the mold of Adi in order to go far in this world cup .

    We don’t need ighalo, period

  • Yekini scores every week den in potugal Be4 u s a 94. Yakubu was missing miss firing until he loss wat was to be a good goal in s A 2010.Now again a retiring igallo wit 4 goals in 15 games is nija danger man. In China .something must be wrong somewhere. Igallo is nigerian Messi.

  • How can Nigeria super eagle depend on Igahlo who is he? he playing 15 match with 4goals,,,very worse, even if you study the qualified time, you will knw that will lack striker.. he play just friendly match without making impact, do you think the guy is good for top striker in the world cup?eagle are playing without experience player!!!world cup is not under age tournament…pls invite Obafemi Martin’s now before is too late….because both of them are playing in China….

Pls igalo shld remain there (china) and nvr return to SE line up again abeg.

  • Kingsley Sokari of CS Sfaxien in Tunisia is a very skillful and talented midfielder who will be a good addition to the super Eagles midfield. He will be a fantastic help to Mikel Obi and has been voted the best foreign player in the Tunisian league which is one of the best in Africa. Ighalo’s lack of goals is mostly due to a lack of quality assists and passes from midfiled as only Mikel Obi seems capable of supplying those killer passes. that is why i recommend Kingsley Sokari to coach Gernot Rohr due to his skills, talent, passing range and physical strength and fitness. In attack, he should also consider given invitations to the duo of Obafemi Martins and Fanendo Addi who are both ruthless strikers and goal poachers that can give Odion ighalo a stiff competition for the No. 9 jersey, and also look in the direction of Cyriel Dessers in Belgium. a word is enough for the wise.
