Iheanacho: Croatia Loss Is In The Past, Attention Now On Iceland

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho says the team has put the defeat to Croatia behind them and the players have now shifted attention to their next Group D game against Iceland on Friday.
Croatia secured the first win in Group D following their 2-0 win against the Super Eagles.
Iheanacho was introduced in the second half for Odion Ighalo but could not prevent the Super Eagles from losing.
The Leicester City star stated the Super Eagles will not relent as they look ahead to Friday’s clash against Iceland.
“We keep fighting our focus is now on the next game,” Iheanacho wrote on his verified Twitter handle.
Nigeria prop up the Group D table without a point with Croatia top on three while Argentina and Iceland are joint second with a point each.

Nice words from Iheanacho, I want guts and passion from u guys, learn from Mexico and Switzerland

  • Just curious, can someone justify why in most of the scrimmages that have taken place since the camp opened between team A and B, we’ve read that kelechi is always scoring goals why not start him? Why keep starting ighalo that isn’t scoring goals even in common scrimmage between team A and B, shouldn’t that be the yardstick in determining who your goal scorer is or am I missing something? This boggles my mind to be honest. There must be something the coach is seeing that we are not seeing I guess. To be really fair though and I have stated this before, ighalo thrives when paired with another striker playing alongside him, casing point him and troy Deeney of Watford. My preference as I have stated it numerous times is simy and kelechi combo upfront. One for his height as he will trouble the big guys from Iceland and the other for his efficiency in the box when it comes to finishing. Kelechi has no rival when it comes to finishing in the box or in front of goal. He has a keen eye for goal in comparison to ighalo imho.

Can’t till Friday to watch how SE will see off iceland to get our worldcup back on track. Believe my people. With some few changes and strong mental focus we’ll be fine. Also don’t concede unnecessary free-kick close to our 18 yard box as Gylfi Siguardsson can be very deadly

God bless 9ja and its people.

    • Thank you sunnb. Despite the fact that Kelechi is more dangerous in the box he is not limited to the box. We shouldn’t forget that he also scores from outside the box which I haven’t seen Ighalo score. He trumps Ighalo in many aspects.

  • I am waiting for Rohr’s starting eleven against Iceland. Once I see some redundant players I won’t watch the match to save myself some headache, and will then agree or disagree with the notion he is a saboteur like some have alleged.

@Debo. Just to add to what you said. I’m not only waiting starting 11 and waiting to see the formation. If it’s same nonsense this coach gave us I’m not watching. Iheanacho and Iwobi are more creative than Ighalo in front of the goal.

  • Complete sport should please advice Rohr to start
    Moses Musa

    Mikel Ndidi

    Idowu Balogun Ekong Ebuehi

as the first 11 eleven. Almost every one knows that Super Eagles will win and score goals in multiples as they did worn against Argentina 4-2 by using this set of players as the first eleven and in this formation.
Complete sport should help NIGERIA PLEASE!!!!! Thank you

    • One of the biggest issues we will have against Iceland is set pieces. Almost all of their players are 1.90m tall. Biggest concern for eagles in the last 4 matches…corner kicks..now included is Long throw ins

  • I think our pace of d game need to be improved, super eagles need to close mark more, and d midfield need to be reformated. that is iwobi playing in front of Mikel and ndidi.

It is very easy to criticize, to me everybody make mistake or make wrong decisions and learn from it. he has made decisions in the past and have worked for him so just let the coach be. France coach have been there for over 6yrs, German coach have been there for over 10yrs with most player i.e Boateng, Kroos etc have been in that team since 2006. Croatia have been together now for alomost 6yrs, can anyone mention S.E first eleven prior to any game unlike in the past? so it is still a young team so let us give the Coach some respect and support this teams even if we fail to qualify forbid. it is a very young with every age of 22yr.Pls.nale does not play football all is been decided in the training and based on what they do in training, the crew make the final list.

    • Whether the coach has been there 10yrs or not, our loss to Croatia was 100% his fault. You can’t play players that don’t have what it takes and expect them to perform miracle. Im talking about Ighalo, Shehu and even Mikel to some extent.

  • The remaining games are ALL must win games for the SE. Less talk and more action. Rohr had better stop experimenting and put the best legs. The World Cup is for teams that are ready. It is not a learning workshop.

  • No room for experiment anymore,.

I was absolutely disappointed at the Super Eagles’ defeat in their match with the Croats. Rohr and the Super Eagles have to intensify their efforts in the last two group stage matches. Up Super Eagles!
