The Super Eagles pipped hard-fighting Tanzania 1-0 in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.

The only goal of the game was scored by Kelechi Iheanacho with 12 minutes remaining in the encounter, the first one under the guidance of new German head coach Gernot Rorh.

With the win, the Eagles finished second in their group with five points behind Egypt.

The Eagles had the game's first chance in the fourth minute but the effort from a free-kick went inches wide.

In the 26th minute, Ahmed Musa went close from 25 yards but his strike went off target.

The Eagles kept probing for the opening goal but couldn't break down a resolute Tanzania defence.

In the 58th minute, Iheanacho saw his shot tipped over the bar by the impressive Tanzania goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

Two minutes later, Mikel Obi's shot was parried away by Manula.

The Eagles made their first change with Mikel going off for Wilfred Ndidi.

With 20 minutes remaining, the Eagles made their second substitution with Brown Ideye replacing the misfiring Odion Ighalo.

The Eagles finally opened the scoring in the 78th minute with a scorching shot from Iheanacho.

In the 81st minute, the Eagles made their final change with Moses Simon replacing Victor Moses.
