Nigerian teen star Kelechi Iheanacho rejoined Manchester City's first team squad Tuesday morning for the start of their pre-season campaign, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
Sporting their new training kit for 2015/16 season, Iheanacho alongside skipper Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas and Fernando were taken through their paces at City's Football Academy training ground.
Iheanacho who had a rather unimpressive performance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand is expected to play a part in the Blues' match schedule against sister club Melbourne City at the Cbus Super Stadium on 18 July.
Then Manuel Pellegrini’s men will take on AS Roma in the first International Champions Cup match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 21 July before battling deposed Champions League winners Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa defender, Micah Richards believes Kelechi Iheanacho has an ideal opportunity to succeed at Manchester City.
Richards who churned out 245 senior appearances for City is optimistic that Jason Denayer and Iheanacho, at least, could break through in some capacity this season.
He said: “I hope there’s another one that can come through and not just play one or two games but really make a career for themselves here.”
“I know the level’s a lot harder now but the manager’s always said if you’re good enough you’ll get the chance and I hope the players do get the chance.” he concluded.
