Iheanacho Knows UEFA Champions League Fate February 3

By Taiwo Adesanya:

Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will have to wait until February 3 to find out if he has been boosted to make the citizens Champions League squad, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed on Tuesday that The Blues will wait until the very last moment before deciding the composition of their 25-man squad.

It has been widely speculated that 19-year-old Iheanacho would be the beneficiary of Samir Nasri's long-term injury, which some thought could rule him out until the end of the season.

The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup star does not qualify as an under-21 player, clubs are allowed an unlimited number of youngsters, provided they have been registered for at least two years. Iheanacho joined City last season.

Nasri's injury means he is first in line for inclusion if it is decided the French ace will not take an effective part.

The French man is in the squad as one of the 17 foreign players allowed by the rules, but he has not started a game since, ironically, the opening Champions League game of the season, against Juventus.

Nasri revealed on Monday that he was targeting the international break at the end of March for a return.

That comes after the two-legged last 16 game against Dynamo Kiev, but ahead of the quarter-finals.

Pellegrini said: “I haven't decided yet, but we are thinking about that. We will talk to the doctor the day before we have to send the list for the Champions League.”
