Goals from Sergio Aguero from the penalty spot and a late Fabian Delph goal secured the win for City.

Jermain Defoe got Sunderland's only goal.

After bossing the early part of the game, City failed to break down a well organised Sunderland defence.

But they didn't wait too long as Aguero converted a fourth minute penalty after Raheem Sterling was fouled by Patrick Van Aanholt inside the Sunderland box.

City continued to control the game but couldn't add to their solitary lead before the end of the first half.

On resumption, City continued to edge possession with nothing to show for it.

In the 59th minute, Aguero came close to doubling City's lead, volleying from eight yards which went wide.

City made two changes, bringing on Jesus Navas for Nolito while Fabian Delph replaced David Silva.

Sunderland made their own change on 65 minutes, bringing on Wahbi Khazri and Adnan Januzaj for Duncan Watmore and Lynden Gooch.

In the 71st minute, Sunderland equalised through Defoe following a pass from Jack Rodwell.

With 10 minutes left, City made their final change with Iheanacho replacing Gael Clichy.

And with three minutes left, City got the winning goal after Paddy Mcnair put the ball into his own net off Navas' cross and under pressure from the lurking Iheanacho.

Late in the game Iheanacho was close to extending City's lead but Vito Mannone palmed away for a corner.
