Iheanacho, Martins, IK Uche, Obasi For Congo, Bafana Clash!

The quintet of Chinedu Obasi, Haruna Lukman, Kelechi Iheanacho, Obafemi Martins and Ikechukwu Uche are set to be invited for the Super Eagles’ last qualifying matches for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations against Congo and South Africa, SL10.ng have been reliably informed.

The aforementioned players couldn’t get into Stephen Keshi’s teams despite their impressive performances for their respective clubs and despite incessant calls to have them included but it seems all five of them will be a part of the team that will announced by interim coach, Amodu Shuaibu for the November fixtures.

A list of 24 players is expected to be announced before the end of October and sources have reliably informed SL10.ng that there will be some changes to the teams Nigerians have been used to under Keshi.

“Most of the players from Keshi’s team will still be there but the likes of Haruna, Obasi, Iheanacho, Martins and Uche will be included provided they aren’t injured before the final list is compiled,” a reliable NFF source told SL10.ng.

If eventually these players are invited, it will sound like a good music to the ears of most Nigerians as they have always clamoured for the invitation of such players.

The Super Eagles are third in qualifying group A with four points in as many games, and play Congo and South Africa in their last matches, with Amodu Shuaibu in-charge on an interim basis after Stephen Keshi was asked to step down from his interim role.

Keshi has had a running battle with Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche hence his continued absence from the Eagles under Keshi, his last appearance being the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The ‘Big Boss’ alluded to Obafemi Martins as being too old, while also alluding to Kelechi Iheanacho as being too young.

Chinedu Obasi was invited a couple of times but never made the team due to injuries and passport issues, while Haruna Lukman was never given a look in by the ‘Big Boss’.

Good news coming from the NFF. I hope Coach Amodu will also invite Ideye and Mba. Thank God Keshi is gone. Enough of unmerited call-ups!

  • THIRD EYE 7 years ago

Sunday Mba is a good player..I have no doubt about that, but there are too many players in the super eagles and the NPL that can play in his wing more than him..So I do not think that inviting Sunday Mba is a good idea.

  • Keshi was a very arrogance man,he does tngs for his own self entries nt for nation.others indigenous coches shuld lean a lesson frm dat,an.invite good players dat whiling 2play 4dier nation 4glory an honour.

Inasmuch as I am happy with these recalls,I’ll be more happier if they perform when truly called upon to deliver. Ideye and Mba shuld also be recalled;everybody deserves a second shot at redemption…

Lol..you are soo funny, may be you should remember the happiness you enjoyed before keshi took over, most of u are perfect example of fools..

I think is is wrong to talk of happiness in Nigeria super eagles without mentioning Keshi. I was not born in 1980, so I would not know how happy Nigerian were back then. I remember how excited my folks were in 1994 and Keshi was in that team (as captain) and my joy knew no bound in 2013 and Keshi coached the team.

  • Mba is key pls.

I agree that Obafemi Martins, Ike Uche and Kelechi Ihenacho should be invited for that match. I disagree with invitation of Chinedu. Obasi and Lukman Haruna. Here is the stat. For Obasi, he has played 3 out of 8 matches in Bundesliga this season as subs with total playing time of 30 mins. In UCL he played twice with total time of 28 mins and in domestic cup he played once as sub for only 8 mins. He has not scored a goal this season. That is very poor. Poorer is the fact that Haruna Lukman has not tasted action for even one minute in 9 weeks old Ukrainian League. The two are just not good enough and Shuaibu. Am odun should note. Brown Ideye would have been a good call up but his injury has not allowed him a good playing time this season. Shuaibu Amodu should check out for Gbenga Arokoyo in Turkish Liga 1 as he is doing very well as a defender and is a super regular.

Abiola Dauda and Ogbeche are doing really great also and are both experienced players. Lukman got injured just before the start of the season and I don’t know his health status now though. Obasi is a good player, but also needs to do more. I pray Nigeria qualifies for AFCON 2015. I couldn’t watch the 2012 AFCON and if we don’t qualify,I guess I would not watch 2015 AFCON

Coaches come and go. Keshi is gone, but the eagles still remains. I wish the eagles all the best and pray the consortium NFF has given the task to qualify us for AFCON 2015 gets it right. I also wish Keshi all the best in his future endeavours. Up Super Eagles! Up Stephen Keshi!

  • I hope that the interim coaches are not only listening to internet coaches but are also monitoring players to make sure they are currently playing and injury free.

  • Keshi was in that team (as captain) in 1994,and my joy knew no bound in 2013 and Keshi coached the team. Shame to all ingrates. Keshi for me instilled discipline to those lads, and i know they love him,Already i know now some of you people have also forgotten Victor Moses, few years to come you guys will rain abuse on Ihenacho Kelechi, few years, am waiting, i appreciated STEPHEN OKECHUKWU KESHI, And will forever remember his legacy as a NIGERIAN COACH. Shame to all those who were negative to that man, shame to the medias for never ever saying anything positive about him. My BIG BOSS THANK YOU.
