Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was not listed for Manchester City’s Match day 37 Premier League game against West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night which City won by 3-1, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Nigerian international who last played for his club on May 6 in the 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace has played 19 matches this season and has scored four goals but has found it difficult to get more games under his belt. He has started just five times and has come off the bench on fourteen occasions.
Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne and Yaya Toure were the scorers for City. Hal Robson-Kanu scored West Brom’s only goal.
Man City had won their last ten matches against West Brom in all competitions prior to Tuesday’s match at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s side are also undefeated in their last eleven home matches.
City had the first chances in the game. First, Aleksandar Kolarov had his fierce free-kick saved by West Brom’s keeper Ben Forster in the 14th minute and five minutes later, Leroy Sane had his low shot just marginally off the right post.
Guardiola’s men went 1-0 up when Gabriel Jesus scored his sixth goal in eight starts for Guardiola’s men in the 27th minute, slotting home the ball after a brilliant interchange of passes between Toure, Sergio Aguero and De Bruyne.
De Bruyne then made it 2-0 for the Citizens just two minutes later when he got to the ball from a Gabriel Jesus pass on the edge of the box and fired in a snap shot inside the right post.
West Brom got a little physical in their approach in the early stages of the second half and the duo of Nacer Chadli and Craig Dawson were booked by referee Craig Pawson for their overzealous challenges.
West Brom’s frustrations got worse when Toure scored his team’s third goal of the night in the 57th minute. Aguero teed up the Ivorian inside the box and he rolled the ball into the bottom right corner and past Ben Foster.
Robson-Kanu guided the ball home after a swift move with three minutes left on the clock with defender Allan Nyom providing the assist.
Forster denied Jesus towards the end of the game after the Brazilian’s burst of pace although Aguero was unmarked on the left side of the field.
The win took City to third place in the table with 75 points while West Brom stay ninth on the log heading into the final day of the season with 45 points.
