Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has tweeted his pride in the Super Falcons for winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian ladies defeated Cameoun’s Lionesses 1-0 in a tense final on Saturday in Yaounde to claim a record eighth tournament-era title.
Desire Oparanozie settled the final late on to silence the 40,000 fans rooting for the hosts.
“Congratulations to our ladies for winning the Nations Cup, proud of you girls,” Manchester City star Iheanacho tweeted on Sunday.
Iheanacho himself has helped win a major trophy for Nigeria, emerging as the best player as the Golden Eaglets won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
At 20, Iheanacho has become an established player in the senior national team and an important member of the Manchester City squad.
