Iheanacho Starts, Plays 57 Minutes In City’s Rout Of Palace

‎Manchester City defeated Crystal Palace 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to make a bold claim to their title aspirations.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini rang the changes, handing Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho a rare starting place in his team and dropping Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling to the substitutes' bench.

Iheanacho who scored the only goal in the corresponding fixture on 12th September 2015 was impressive while he lasted on the pitch and was one of the assist makers for the former England champions.

Crystal Palace were the first of the two teams to threaten the other with an attacking effort, as Damien Delaney's close header was palmed away by Joe Hart in City goal.

David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne combined beautifully to set up Fabian Delph who fired a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner and beyond Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey in the 22nd minute.

Iheanacho set up Sergio Aguero in scoring the second goal in the 41st minute though the ball took a wicked deflection off the head of Scot Dann.

Aguero curled the ball at the edge of Palace's box just before half time but it stayed 2-0 at the interval.

Iheanacho was substituted by dethroned African Footballer of the Year, Yaya Toure, in the 57th minute.

Aguero claimed his brace in the 68th minute with a simple tap-in with Kevin De Bruyne the provider who himself received a defence-splitting pass from Yaya Toure.

David Silva made it 4-0 and game over in the 84th minute at the Etihad Stadium. The Spaniard was left with the simple task of tapping the ball in as Sergio Aguero laid the ball to him after a counter attacking run.
