Nigeria striker Ikechukwu Uche has signed for Mexican side Tigres from La Liga club Villarreal, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Uche had a medical at the top flight club on Tuesday and the deal was sealed on Thursday night in Mexico (early hours of Friday in Nigeria).
The club announced their delight at the completion of the move via their official Twitter handle @TigresOficial moments after Uche put pen to paper.
“Ikechukwu Uche has signed his contract with the Tigers,” the club wrote. “Welcome to the @TigreOficial family. Your commitment and talent will bring us incomparable joy.”
Uche himself confirmed the deal, tweeting: “I’m very happy to announce an agreement with @TigresOficial. I will do my best for the team #SomosTigres.”
Tens of Tigres fans replied to both tweets, most of them excited to have a player of Uche’s standing at their club.
Uche, 31, made 30 appearances with Villarreal last season, scoring eight goals.
He signed a contract extension with the Spanish club in December 2014 that was supposed to keep him there till 2017, but no transfer fee has been mentioned in his Tigres deal.
