IK Uche Played For 56 Mins In Fixed Game!

–12 Real Zaragosa players paid N24m for game Vs Levante

The match-fixing scandal engulfing Spanish football could consume Super Eagles striker, Ikechukwu Uce who was listed and played in the game under investigation for match-fixing by Spanish authorities.

Uche was on for 56 minutes in his club, Real Zaragosa’s must-win final game of the season away at Levante on Saturday May 21, 2011 at the Estadi Ciutat de València.

The Nigerian was replaced by a certain Braulio in the game watched by 20,000 spectators and won 2-1 by Zaragosa with goals from captain Gabi Fernandez (39, 73) while Levante pulled one back courtsey Christian Stuani (80).

Investigators are investigating the suggestion around 12 Zaragoza players received a total of 120,000 euros in their bank accounts in the week leading up to the game and that they paid their Levante rivals in cash for throwing the match.

According to El Mundo Gabi, who is now captain of Athletico Madrid hinted investigators on Thursday he was aware the match was fixed:’I did what the club told me to do,’ when he was questioned for an hour over the events of that final match of the season.

If his statement is an acknowledgement that he played a full part in the buying of the game it will rock La Liga. For years Spanish football has turned a blind eye to clubs paying other sides to try harder against their relegation rivals.
