Former Nigeria international, Ikechukwu Uche, has expressed his delight after his Spanish second division club Gimnastic de Tarragona escaped relegation with a 1-0 home win against UCAM Murcia on the final day of the Spanish La Liga 1/2/3, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
Gimnastic needed an outright victory against UCAM Murcia in order to avoid going down into the third-tier of Spanish football.
After being frustrated for most part of the game, Gimnastic finally got the breakthrough, thanks to Manu Barreiro who scored in the 90th minute of the game.
Uche featured for 90 minutes in the encounter for Gimnastic.
"Happy end to a season full of suffering and poor results," Uche wrote on his Twitter handle.
The win means Gimnastic finished 14th on 52 points in the 22-team league table.
Uche played 24 games, scoring eight goals in the just concluded season.
Also Almeria, who have Nigerian duo of Kalu Uche (elder brother to Ikechukwu) and Ramon Azeez, escaped relegation after edging visiting Reus 1-0.
Both Uche and Azeez were unused substitute for Almeria in the game.
Jorge Garcia Morcillo got the decisive goal for Almeria in the 15th minute which helped them avoid the drop.
Almeria ended the season in the 15th position on 51 points.
Kalu Uche made 13 appearances, scoring two goals, while Azeez had 22 games with two goals also.
