Ikhana: Let’s Move On From Super Eagles’ Cameroon Win, Focus On Zambia

By David Meshioye:

Former Kano Pillars coach Kadiri Ikhana has advised the Nigeria Football Federation to put the Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers success over Cameroon behind them and start plotting how to beat Zambia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. The Super Eagles took four points off the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in two Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers in early September to stay on top of African qualifying Group B.

But Ikhana, who led Enyimba to CAF Champions League success in 2003, feels Zambian seem to have developed a feeling that no mountain is insurmountable after their wins over Algeria and therefore have nothing to lose against Nigeria.

“I feel we are beginning to celebrate our feat over Cameroon for too long,” Ikhana told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“All of that should be in the past by now because it could be counter-productive.

“It is more or less like counting your chickens before they are hatched. The truth is we have not qualify and I see no reason why we keep dwelling on Super Eagles’ feat over Cameroun when we have another threat coming from the Zambians.

“That game calls for seriousness and intense preparation because we just have to remain focused and win to qualify for the World Cup.”

About Peter Oriaku

  • Let’s allow these victories to soak into our blood. How great to come this far!. This will psyche us up and boost our confidence. Well, the players are back to their respective teams and we’ve been hearing of their team engagements. I suspect Rohr is keeping taps on them. I personally think that a one-week camp is enough to fine tune the team and get the Zambian job done. There is no cause for alarm.

  • I understand what Mr Ikhana is saying. He knows what he is saying. As much as the vs Cameroon victory should be celebrated, we should not forget the task ahead of us. We should start making plenty of noise about the vs Zambia match. The press has that duty because most of our players are foreign based. So all news about vs Cameroon match should cease and the vs Zambia match should be on their website. They should get all what the Zambians are doing about the match. Our players depend on our websites for info about Nigeria and Africa. The tension should be heightened so that all should see how important that match is to our way to Russia. The website http://www.zambianfootball.co.zm has started sensitizing the Zambian populace about the importance of the match even begging the President to help in the preparation of the team. This is what Kadiri Ikhana want. After qualifying we can start talking about how Cameroon has been peppering us and the sweet revenge. For now till November we should be talking about the remaining matches. Good talk Mr Ikhana.

No doubt the victory over Cameroon is a landmark. No more shall we hear the tales of Indomitable Lions coming, and start shaking with fear. But what Kadiri Ikhana is saying is true, and he knows Nigerian football very well. We can easily get carried away and lose focus. But above all let us pray for minimized injuries to key players. I think players and managers, and the NFF, as professionals know what they’re up against – the last hurdle before the World Cup!!!

Who are all these coaches talking? IKHANA, BOSSO etc. they are among the reasons Nigerian football lagged behind for a long time through their incompetence and backwardness, now we have a proper pro, you don’t have to teach him what he knows.
