–After beating Enyimba 2-0 in Super Six tourney
By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
After seeing his club Enyimba FC of Aba losing 0-2 to National U-20 team at the ongoing Super Six tournament, former African Coach of the Year, Kadiri Ikhana has rated the Manu Garba led team very high and possible winner of the pre season games.
Ikhana told Complete Sports after the 10-man Flying Eagles outscored Enyimba 2-0 that his boys had to dig deep to contain the sassy plays of the AYC bound team, adding that they were clearly the best team of match day one of the tourney packaged by the NFF/LMC.
He also gave Kano Pillars the thumbs up for beating Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt 2-0 even as he expressed dismay at the lackluster performance of the U-23 Eagles, noting that his team were below expectation because they only trained for a few days before the tourney.
“My team should do better if we had prepared for it like we normally do, but that notwithstanding, Enyimba will bounce back in subsequent matches. I must commend the NFF and LMC for organising this tourney. It will shape up all the teams for their continental games”, says Ikhana.
“Our approach to this pre- season is to use it to prepare for the Nigeria Premier league and the CAF Champions League. We are not here to win the tourney but if our best is good to win, we shall be glad to do so” he stated.
Also speaking on the tourney, Kano Pillars technical adviser, Okey Emordi expressed delight at the way his boys started, stressing that they can only get better in the competition.
He said Kano Pillars will go all out to surpass their previous record in the CAF Champions League, adding that with the support of the government and people of Kano state, they are condemned to progress.
