Ikhana Slams NFF For Advertising National Team Coaching Vacancies

By David Meshioye:

Former Kano Pillars manager, Kadiri Ikhana, has stated that the Nigeria Football Federation should not have invited applications from coaches who desire to coach the national teams.

The NFF this week advertised for applications to fill several national team vacancies, including the Super Falcons.

In an exclusive chat with Completesportsonline.com former Enyimba International of Aba coach Ikhana vehemently kicked against the idea, stressing that it is the prerogative of NFF technical department to monitor performance local coaches in the league.

“I really don’t know why NFF had to advertise coaching vacancies in this modern era of football,” Ikhana told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We don’t have to do that since we all know those coaches who are doing extremely well in the league. Our league has provided the much needed platform to monitor these coaches and appointments should be based on club performance.

“Fine you might say the FA wants to be transparent with its selection, but how many top nations advertise coaching vacancies for their junior national teams? It is not done. NFF need to adopt the right approach when looking for coaches to manage our national teams."

Topping the list of vacancies announced is the post of the Super Falcons coach which was previously held by Florence Omagbemi.

Omagbemi led the Super Falcons to win an eighth African title in Cameroon in 2016 and also became the second person after Uche Eucharia to win the Africa Women's Cup of Nations as a player and coach.

Other vacant positions according to an NFF media statement are the head coaches for the U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams for both the men and women.

Also vacant are the positions for the assistant coaches and the goalkeeper trainers.
