Super Eagles head coach,Stephen Keshi says he has not closed the door on extending his deal as Nigeria’s boss but that it will be on his own terms.
Keshi had reportedly told his players in the dressing room after the 2-0 loss to France in the round of 16 tie of the on-going FIFA World Cup that he has managed his last game as Eagles boss but the team’s media officer issued a statement where Keshi said he was misquoted.
The Big Boss,as Keshi is fondly called has however clarified his position saying he is technically no longer the head coach of the Super Eagles following the expiration of his contract with the game against France.
He also said he has yet to be proposed a new contract and should there be one, he would insist on such personal terms like a house and a car.
“I never resigned because my contract just ended. I will only resign if I have a contract,” Keshi told AfricanFootball.com “I was meant to know that I’m still on as long as the World Cup is there. Once the World Cup is over, I’m no more there. No one from the NFF offered me a contract, so what do you want me say? To keep shut? I need to let the world know that I’m a free agent, I can go anywhere until otherwise.”
Keshi said for a new Nigeria contract his agreed personal terms will have to be in place, which was not the case for his first stint.
“We have to talk on my personal terms or it won’t work because in the first contract of two and a half years, there was no house, no vehicle, my staff…there was nothing done. I really don’t know,” he said.
Asked in another interview what he would like done for the coach of the national team if he was in charge of the country’s sports, Keshi said he would love to get his pay as at when due as well as build a training centre for the Super Eagles.
‘I will make the Federation pay his salaries on time and those of his assistants. Build a training centre and facility for the national team to train,”he said in an interview with the Cable and added that while he was in charge of the team they never had anywhere decent to train.
‘The Abuja National Stadium is filled with sand and the worst kind of sand. That means when someone goes to ground he will have skin wounds. I and my assistants spend our own money to buy training cones and some of the things we use for training sessions,” he said.

If you are saying the truth NFA are not serious but as far you Nigerian plz think about the future of your nation, you are the right one for our foot ball
LET US THINK AND DO THINGS IN THE INTEREST OF OUR NATION AND NOT FOR PERSONAL INTEREST.
MR. KESHI WITH ALL RESPECT TO YOU, I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD BE MORE MATURED IN HOW YOU HANDLE THINGS IN THIS MANNER, DO YOU EXPECT THE NFF TO EXTEND YOUR CONTRACT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TOURNAMENT? BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE AGREEMENT MUST BE BASED ON YOUR PERFORMERS AT THE WORLD CUP THAT WILL DETERMINE YOUR CONTRACT EXTENSION NOW THAT WE ARE OUT OF THE GAME, AT LEAST YOU SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL YOU AND THE NFF REACH A CONCLUSION BEFORE MAKING SUCH STATEMENT.
ALL THE SAME GOOD LUCK TO KESHI AND GOOD LUCK TO MY DARLING COUNTRY AND SUPER EAGLES. GOD BLESS US ALL.
@ Afolabi David, you might be right, but Keshi knows NFF more than you, and i believe that is the best way to get at them to respect you..when you keep shut, they will play you like football, with this the NFF has to respect him and offer him a lucrative contract.
He has been very matured since, managing issues between him and NFF.
What is the matter with keshi?? I thought he was heading to South Africa? He will not survive more than a year in SA…
Keshi, Nigerian must thank you for the impressive job you have done in the past 2+ years. Nigeria is never an ideal place for any kind of venture, and perhaps will remain so forever. You deserve your salary and it should be paid on time too. The Eagles failed at the 2014 World Cup for a lot of reasons. One of them is that the quality of players we have now cannot measure up with the likes of Oliseh, Edebor, Amunike, Nwosu, Muda Lawal, Omokaro, Yekini, Odegbami, Onye, Okocha, Uche, Kanu, Finidi Goerge, Adesina, Okala, etc. Those are legends who never really had the kind of opportunities the present “Safie” generation have. When I look at the current crop of players all I see are half-hearted creeps good for nothing half-men, half-babies, lost-selves who think that they are good but they are not. Does that not tell you why England cannot impress at any world cup – because they recruit these bunch of creeps. Look at the Cameroon, Senegal, and Ghana squads. Were they not as bad as your Eagles –poor generation!!
If NFA will give me the job as Eagle’s head coach, I will pitch my tenth with the crop of boys who won the last U-17 world cup. Those are from a different generation. Then, I will look for local talents from our various Leagues. My guarantee for success is that I will not draw any salary if I fail. And I will request for one-year contract so that I need not to stay on the job once I disappoint on my promises in the first year.
As for me I’ll say Keshi has the right to decide what he want either to remain as Nigeria coach or go somewhere else, but my take is NFF should not even think of foreign coach. I agree with Fashaun in the likes of J J Okocha, but most importantly is a coach who can help look for a player to marshal that number 10 position which is lacking in the team which is the reason I agree with Fashaun on Okocha and Eguaveon but not Yobo
Keshi ,s is not complicated cos you don’t hv to wait for player or coachs contract expired before u renew it, other team in need of them will take them as free age
Hmmm, 5million naira monthly, a car, a house and other logistics not bad but buying kits and training cones is what I don’t understand, May kits manager is not doing his job well. Wish 9ja best of luck but I suggest we focus more on our local league that keep our Nigerian youth busy and eradicate youth restiveness not super eagle for nothing.
