India pair Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma have been ruled out of this week’s second Test against Australia due to injury.
The duo have not been included in Virat Kohli’s 13-man squad for the second Test, which is due to get underway in Perth on Friday, with spinner Ashwin having been ruled out with an abdominal strain, while batsman Sharma jarred his lower back during last week’s first Test – a match India won by 31 runs.

A statement from India’s governing body, the BCCI, confirmed the news of the duo’s absence, while opener Prithvi Shaw, who suffered ligament damage during the build-up to the first Test, also remains unavailable.
“Ravi Ashwin has a left-sided abdominal strain. He is receiving treatment at the moment. He has been ruled out of the second Test,” the BCCI statement said.
“Rohit Sharma jarred his lower back while fielding in the first Test at Adelaide. He is undergoing treatment, he too is ruled out of the second Test.”
India are looking to go 2-0 up in the four-match Test series and captain Kohli is confident of their chances as they go in search of a first-ever series success on Australian soil in the longest format of the game.
“We are definitely confident of the percentage of chances we have and we want to build on that,” Kohli said. “Obviously Australia is going to be a strong team in their home conditions and on a wicket like Perth, which probably offers you more than most other pitches in Australia. But we have an equal chance.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
