Ings A ‘Big Doubt’ For Fulham Trip

Danny Ings is facing a race against time to be fit for Southampton’s clash at Fulham on Saturday. England international Ings was forced off in the 1-1 draw at home to Watford prior to the international break with a hamstring injury and manager Mark Hughes says the striker is struggling to make the trip.

“Danny is the big doubt at the moment,” he said at a press conference. “He’s only just got out on the grass so maybe tomorrow we might be able to integrate him into the group. As we stand at the moment, he has to be a doubt.”

Mohamed Elyounoussi and Mario Lemina are currently hampered with hamstring and thigh issues respectively although Hughes is more optimistic the duo will play a part at Craven Cottage.

He added: “We’ve got a few niggles; Moi Elyounoussi has a bit of tightness in his hamstring and Mario Lemina has an issue with his thigh which we’ve been managing for a number of weeks now and we’ve just got to keep an eye on it. Those two should be okay but Danny is our main concern.”

The Saints will definitely be without left-back Ryan Bertrand after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against the Hornets, but Hughes has Matt Targett, who played on loan at Fulham last season, to call on.

“We’re fortunate that we have someone of the quality of Matt to come in,” the manager said. “It’s an obvious choice and one that I’ll make as long as he comes through training unscathed.”
