Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has been ruled out of his club Las Palmas’ Spanish LaLiga clash against European champions Real Madrid on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Etebo had been hoping to play a part in the game after picking up the injury a fortnight ago which forced him to miss Nigeria’s last two friendlies against Poland and Serbia.
The former Warri Wolves player, CSN reported on Thursday, would undergo tests on his quadriceps to ascertain if he was fit enough to take part in the game but it has now been confirmed that he will play no part.
His absence will be a blow to Las Palmas who are fighting against the drop and need to get a positive result in the game to boost their survival hopes.
“As a result of injury Etebo has been ruled out of the game. We do not want to risk him,” Las Palmas coach Paco Jemez stated during his pre-match conference on Friday.
The 23-year-old has played seven games and provided one assist for Las Palmas since he joined on a six-month loan deal from Portuguese side Feirense in January.
Las Palmas are 18th in the Spanish LaLiga table with 21 points from 29 games.
