Manchester City have enquired about the availability of Nicolas Pepe but the forward is content to stay with Lille for another season. The Times claim City are interested in the 23-year-old, whose statistics with Lille this season are said to be the closest resemblance to Lionel Messi of any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Pepe has now scored eight and laid on seven goals in 12 appearances this season after bagging his latest from the penalty spot in Lille’s 2-1 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Friday.
On the final day of the summer transfer window, Lille are understood to have rejected an offer of £26m from Lyon for Pepe and, with several Champions League clubs tracking him, his current valuation is thought to be over £40m.
However, Pepe is not looking to leave Lille at the first available opportunity and has reiterated his stance of wanting to stay with the club for another season after this.
Sitting alongside teammate Jonathan Bamba on the Telefoot show this Sunday, he said: “We would be happy to stay at Lille next season.”
And, when asked about the different clubs reported to want his services, he added: “I was not aware of all that. I’m happy at Lille, I have something specific to do here. After we do not know but play with [Jonathan] Ikone, Bamba or another next year, I would like it.”
