Albon Proud Of F1 Start

Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon says he is proud of the way he has started his Formula 1 career.

The 23-year-old is one of three rookies on the 2019 grid, but he has shown no fear over the opening three races of the season, finishing amongst the points in Bahrain and at last week’s Chinese Grand Prix.

Albon’s impressive start to the season is even more surprising, as he was only confirmed as one of Toro Rosso’s drivers for the new campaign last November.

Indeed, the Thai driver’s first experience in an F1 car did not come until pre-season testing got underway, which is contrasting to the other rookies on the grid, as McLaren’s Lando Norris and George Russell of Williams had both previously participated in young driver tests.

The future certainly looks bright for Albon, who feels his grounding in Formula 2 has also helped him make the step up with relative ease. “Yeah I am (proud of my start to F1),” Albon told Sky. “To be honest, Formula 2 itself is a really good stepping stone for Formula 1.

Even tyre management and all those things, they’re directly related to Formula 2. “Learning the tricks, from there it carries directly over to Formula 1.”
