Amiens have confirmed midfielder Bongani Zungu will miss “several months” of action after suffering injury against Saint Etienne. During the goalless draw of the Ligue 1 clash, Zungu went down awkwardly and had to be stretchered off.
Initially, the South African midfielder was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Libya over the international break, with Amiens hoping to have him back soon after.
However, the injury has proved to be much more severe and it is now likely that Zungu will miss at least six months of action with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
The club said in a statement on their official website: “Amiens SC wishes to express its full support to Bongani Zungu, victim this Sunday against Saint-Etienne of a serious sprained knee with (the involvement of the anterior cruciate ligament. He will be unavailable for several months.
“We wish him to come back as soon as possible and even stronger.”
