Marco Asensio says it is not down to him to lead the Real Madrid team and has called on more senior figures to step up to the plate. Although Real have turned around their form since Santiago Solari took over as boss, they have struggled somewhat this campaign as they sit sixth in the La Liga table.
Asensio is just 22 and in his third season as a professional, and was not impressed when it was suggested he needs to stand up on the pitch more and lead by example.
Real have vast experience in the side with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Asensio says it is down to them to lead the side through troubled times, not him.
“For me, I don’t see Madrid in a crisis,” he told Vamos. “And I don’t think it’s for me to carry the team – there are players who are much more experienced, have more years playing under their belts and more status than I have and they’re the ones who have to lead the team.
“When the new coach arrived I started off playing but now I am getting less chances but we’ll draw any conclusions when the season has ended.”
