Ashley Sets Takeover Deadline

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly set a deadline of two weeks for a potential takeover of the club to be completed. The Sports Direct tycoon has been actively looking to sell the club for a number of months and it emerged in May that the Bin Zayed Group were closing in on a £350million takeover.

However, things appear to have cooled regarding that takeover, much to the frustration of Ashley, who has now seemingly called for interested parties to get a deal done within the next two weeks otherwise he will remain in charge on Tyneside0.

Ashley is keen to get a takeover completed as soon as possible, as Newcastle have a lot to do ahead of the new season, including finding a replacement manager for Rafael Benitez, who will be leaving the club at the end of the month after an extension to his contract could not be agreed.

Newcastle will also be looking to actively strengthen their squad over the summer, particularly after midfielder Mohamed Diame was allowed to leave on a free transfer, while the re-signing of loanee Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis is looking increasingly unlikely.
