Australia In Control Over Sri Lanka

Australia are looking likely to win their first Test with Sri Lanka after Marnus Labuschagne made his maiden Test 50 on day two.

The South African-born batsman, who moved to Australia at the age of 10, made his debut in the side last year against Pakistan but has taken four Tests to make his first 50.

Australia, responding to Sri Lanka’s first innings of 144, were in a spot of trouble when Labuschagne came to the crease with the score on 84-4 but a 166-run partnership with Travis Head (84) saw the home side take control before he was eventually out for 81.

Australia posted 323, despite Suranga Lakmal’s impressive 5-75, before reducing the visitors to 17-1 at the close, still 162 runs behind after Lahiru Thirimanne was caught behind off Pat Cummins off the last ball of the day.
