Bamba Keen To Retire A Bluebird

Sol Bamba says he wants to play on until he is 40 and would be delighted if he finished his playing career with Cardiff City.

The 34-year-old has already achieved cult status amongst the Bluebirds supporters having been a key figure in their promotion to the Premier League, while he netted four times in 28 appearances this term before injury cut short his season.

The former Leeds United man is currently working his way back from a serious knee injury sustained in March which is likely to keep him out for the start of next season.

Bamba could be forgiven for considering retirement due to the severity of the problem, coupled with his age, but he has pledged to make his return for the Welsh side in the 2019/20 campaign, claiming he would be happy to remain at Cardiff until he hangs up his boots. “They have been magnificent to me.

I cannot have a situation where their last image of me is being stretchered off the pitch. No way.

I have to return, and I will,” Bamba told Wales Online. “Preferably with Cardiff,” he says, on that subject. “I just love it here so much, the club, the people, the area.

Everybody has been so supportive and I kind of feel I owe it to the fans to return and play in front of them again.”
