Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde says his side must find a way to cope when opponents look to shut up shop. The Catalan giants were expected to breeze past Leganes, who had taken just one point from their opening five matches, and all seemed to be going to plan when Philippe Coutinho netted after 12 minutes.
Barcelona failed to kick on and Leganes grew into the match as the evening developed, Nabil El Zahr and Oscar Rodriguez put the hosts ahead in the space of 68 seconds.
Leganes were able to hang on for a 2-1 triumph, handing the Blaugrana just their second La Liga loss under Valverde, and the Barcelona boss was clearly shocked at the full-time whistle.
Valverde told the club’s official website: “It’s not a result that can be explained. It’s not an easy moment. We weren’t expecting this.
“(But) we need to expect that things like this can happen and we have to be ready to turn things around when they get difficult.
“We found it hard to create chances, and they shut up shop at the back.”
