Australia’s Ashleigh Barty secured the biggest win of her career after winning the WTA Elite Trophy in Zuhai, China. The world No.19 overcame China’s Wang Qiang in comfortable fashion, wrapping up a 6-3 6-4 victory inside just 83 minutes.
Barty raced into a 4-0 lead in the opening set before Wang eventually crawled her way back into the contest.
She served out the set though and made a crucial break in the second to put her in total control.
In the end she saved four of six break points in securing the win, although the 22-year-old admits a break is now on the agenda.
She told reporters: “I’m looking forward to a bit of holiday and then getting ready for the Australian summer.”
Barty won the US Open women’s doubles title with Coco Vandeweghe in September, while she also beat Johanna Konta in the final of the Nottingham Open.
