Beck Ruled Out Of Relegation Fight

Bundesliga strugglers Stuttgart have been dealt a blow as experienced full-back Andreas Beck will miss the rest of the season through injury. The former Germany international has been a regular feature for Die Roten this season, making 24 appearances but the club have now confirmed that he requires surgery on the knee injury picked up during Saturday’s defeat at Hertha Brelin – meaning he will play no further part in the season.

“Andreas Beck suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during Saturday’s match at Hertha Berlin and will require surgery,” a Stuttgart statement read. “The operation will take place shortly, after which Beck is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks. He will therefore not feature again this season.”

Beck’s enforced absence will come as a blow to Stuttgart, who have been fighting against relegation all season and look set to go into a relegation play-off against the team that finishes third in Bundesliga 2. Nico Willig’s side certainly cannot finish any higher than 16th, but they could still face automatic relegation from the top flight, but only if they lose their final two matches of the regular season and either Nurnberg or Hannover, the two sides below them in the standings, win both of theirs.
